Featured Doctor: Dr. Kenneth Liechty, MD

We want to thank Dr. Kenneth Liechty, MD, with the Children’s Hospital of Colorado and the Colorado Fetal Care Center for Bringing Hope Around the World to our members.

Written by Debbie Stevenson, mom to cherub Eli:

I am so honored to be able to submit Dr. Ken Liechty from Children's Hospital of CO and the Colorado Fetal Care Center for bringing Hope Around The World.  This man is beyond brilliant and their program has some of the best survival rates in the Country - they are in the top 2.

Just a little bit about CHCO from our perspective: Children's of Colorado has an entire CDH team that treats over 30 CDH cases a year.  When we were inpatient in 2017, they had 11 CDH families at one time and they currently have another wave of 10 CDH kids in the NICU today.  Their team consists of Dr. Liechty and a top team of surgeons, Dr. Jason Gien who is a well known CDH Specialist and Neonatologist and Dr. John Kinsella who actually pioneered Nitric for use with CDH patients.  Behind these 3 amazing men is an entire team of specialists, nurses, dieticians, NNPs, etc.... The team they have is 2nd to none but until recently they really were not well known for all of the amazing statistics and work they have done to treat these conditions - Luckily that all appears to be changing now.  Children's is the top referral center and level 4 NICU serving an 8 state region......they also treated some of our good CDH friends from MT who were referred and airlifted for their daughter's CDH. Children's of CO has the only Multi-Disciplinary clinic in the region for Hypoplasia and CDH. This clinic will follow Eli until he is an adult and for him it means surgery, pulmonology, developmental pediatrics, special care, nutrition and any other CDH related specialists he may need all working together in one clinic to manage his care on a regular cadence.

We personally have named Dr. Liechty Batman because he is our superhero.  Not only is he a brilliant Surgeon, Doctor and researcher, he is also one of the most down to earth, genuine people I have ever met. We are so grateful to call this man and his family our friends and honestly, our family...….

Dr. Liechty is what a real life superhero looks like. He has given us the greatest gift that anyone ever could - Our son Eli. From day 1 he and his team gave us hope when others did not. Not only did he care for our son, he also loved us as a family through the worst time of our lives. There are no words to describe the gratitude and love we have for this amazing surgeon and friend.

We would like to thank Dr. Kamlesh S. This wonderful doctor and nurses were brought to our attention by Terry King German, mom to cherub Skylar, “we can NEVER thank these angels on earth enough for saving the life of our sweet miracle, Skylar!!!!”

Dr. Macwan was known to many as the “magician of ventilators and the Yoda of CDH.”  CDH families and various OSF Staff recently said goodbye to Dr. Macwan at the CDH Family Picnic in September and celebrated his retirement.
